PART 1: Vocabulary & Grammar
Money for Events (경조사비)
Vocab: 축의금 [chu-gwi-geum] is congratulatory money for weddings or birthdays. 조의금/부의금 [jo-ui-geum] is condolence money for funerals. 합의금 [ha-bwi-geum] is settlement money for accidents.
가해자 ↔ 피해자
Antonym: 가해자 [ga-hae-ja] is the attacker or perpetrator who caused harm. 피해자 [pi-hae-ja] is the victim who suffered the damage.
V + -기 마련이다 = V + -을 수밖에 없다
Grammar: Both mean "It is bound to happen" or "It is natural that...". (e.g., 아이들은 부모를 보고 배우기 마련이다 = It is natural for children to learn by watching their parents.)
V + -(으)ㄹ 겸 (겸사겸사)
Grammar: Used when an action achieves two or more purposes at once. (e.g., 바다 구경도 할 겸, 친구도 만날 겸 부산에 가요 - I'm going to Busan to see the ocean and also meet a friend.)
PART 2: Korean Society & History
한 부모 가족 (Single-parent family)
Society: 한 부모 가족 [han-bu-mo ga-jok] is a family consisting of only one parent (mother or father) and their children due to divorce or death.
세종대왕 (King Sejong) and 영릉 (Yeongneung)
History: King Sejong created Hangeul (훈민정음). His royal tomb, where he is buried with his queen, is called 영릉 [Yeong-neung], and it is officially designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
